The algorithm is not making decisions. It is executing the values embedded in its design by human decision-makers who refuse to acknowledge their choices.

The people designing these systems should be licensed professionals, subject to ethical codes and personal liability, like doctors, lawyers, and engineers.

We can accept the replacement of accountable human judgment with unaccountable algorithmic systems, or we can demand that technology serve human values rather than replace them.

This is not about stopping technological development. This is about ensuring that technological development preserves rather than eliminates human agency and accountability.

The concentration of judgment power in algorithmic systems represents a fundamental shift in how societies make decisions about individual lives. If we do not consciously choose how this transition occurs, it will be chosen for us by those who profit from unaccountable power.
